From physical part
to print-ready
digital twin.
ALT provides high-precision 3D scanning and scan-to-CAD reverse engineering services in Santa Barbara, CA — converting real-world parts, assemblies, and anatomical geometry into accurate, editable digital models at 0.03mm accuracy. No drawings, no blueprints, no problem.
Before you can redesign, repair, reproduce, or inspect a part, you need an accurate digital twin of it. 3D scanning is the fastest and most accurate path from physical object to usable geometry — whether that part has existing drawings or not.
High-precision 3D scanning technology.
ALT's scanning system combines AI-guided visual tracking, structured light, and full-color texture capture to produce accurate, clean point clouds and mesh models from a single session — no markers, no lengthy setup, fast turnaround.
High-precision dimensional capture
0.03mm accuracy and 0.07mm resolution across part sizes from 15mm to 1500mm. Captures fine surface detail, tight radii, complex undercuts, and organic geometry that CMM probing and calipers cannot reach — in a single non-contact scan session.
AI-guided marker-free scanning
Our scanning system uses AI visual tracking and intelligent point-cloud processing to register scans and capture complex geometry without physical reference markers — eliminating setup time and marker placement errors. Faster sessions, cleaner data, and no marks left on your parts.
Full-color 24-bit texture capture
24-bit color scanning reproduces the object's original textures, surface finishes, and markings — not just its shape. Critical for anatomical model production, consumer product digitization, art reproduction, and any application where color and texture are part of the deliverable.
Point cloud processing & mesh optimization
Raw scan data is processed, aligned, noise-reduced, and gap-filled in-house — producing clean, watertight mesh files ready for downstream use. ALT's processing workflow handles complex multi-scan registrations, occluded geometry, and large point cloud datasets without outsourcing the post-processing step.
Scan-to-CAD reverse engineering
Every scan can move directly into ALT's SolidWorks and Blender reverse engineering workflow — converting raw point cloud and mesh data into clean, parametric, fully editable CAD models. Output as STEP, IGES, STL, OBJ, or native SolidWorks format, ready for modification, simulation, or manufacturing.
Dimensional inspection & deviation analysis
Compare a manufactured part's scan against the original CAD model to produce a full deviation map — color-coded surface deviation, GD&T measurement reporting, and pass/fail documentation for quality control, first article inspection (FAI), and tolerance verification without a CMM.
Four scan deliverable packages.
ALT offers four output packages depending on what you need — from raw mesh data through fully parametric CAD models. All packages include a clean, processed mesh as the foundation.
Scan mesh only
Processed, clean, watertight mesh of your object — noise removed, gaps filled, ready for 3D printing, archiving, or visual rendering. Delivered as STL, OBJ, or PLY. The fastest and lowest-cost deliverable for applications that don't require editable CAD.
Color mesh with texture
Full-color textured mesh with 24-bit color data mapped to the geometry — for applications where color and surface finish are part of the deliverable. Anatomical models, consumer products, art reproduction, figurines, and digital preservation. Delivered as OBJ with texture maps or GLTF.
Scan-to-CAD reverse engineering
Full reverse engineering pipeline: scan data processed into a clean parametric CAD model with defined features, reference geometry, and design intent captured — not just a mesh converted to surfaces. Delivered as STEP, IGES, or native SolidWorks file ready for modification, simulation, or manufacturing. This is ALT's flagship offering for engineering applications.
Inspection & deviation report
Dimensional comparison of your manufactured part against the original CAD model — producing a color-coded deviation map, dimensional measurement report, and pass/fail documentation. For quality control, incoming inspection, first article inspection (FAI), and tolerance verification. Includes GD&T callout reporting on request.
What ALT scanning is used for.
ALT's 3D scanning and scan-to-CAD services support a wide range of engineering, medical, creative, and manufacturing applications — wherever accurate geometry capture is the bottleneck.
Beyond scanning — AI-augmented
design & 3D model generation.
ALT extends its scan-to-CAD capabilities with AI-augmented design tools — generating parametric models and 3D geometry from inputs that don't require a physical object at all. Whether you have a 2D sketch, a reference image, or a design intent you want to explore parametrically, ALT can take it to a 3D model ready for engineering and manufacture.
From part to deliverable — how it works.
ALT's end-to-end 3D scanning and reverse engineering workflow — from initial consultation through delivery of your scan file, CAD model, or inspection report.
Free consultation
Tell us about your object — size, material, surface finish, and what you need the final file for. We'll recommend the right scan package, confirm feasibility, and quote turnaround time before you ship anything.
Scan session
Your object is scanned at ALT's Santa Barbara facility using our high-precision AI-guided system. Full-color capture included where needed. Most single objects scanned in one session — complex assemblies may require multiple setups.
Point cloud processing
Raw scan data is registered, aligned, noise-reduced, and gap-filled — producing a clean, watertight mesh. For complex parts with occluded geometry, multiple scan registrations are merged at this stage.
CAD / inspection (if applicable)
For Package 03: mesh is reverse-engineered into a parametric CAD model in SolidWorks. For Package 04: mesh is aligned to your reference CAD and a deviation map and inspection report are generated.
Delivery
Files delivered in your requested format — STL, OBJ, PLY, STEP, IGES, SolidWorks, or PDF inspection report. Most single-object scans delivered within days. CAD reverse engineering turnaround quoted per project complexity.
Why ALT for 3D scanning & reverse engineering.
Most scan bureaus deliver a mesh file and stop there. ALT integrates scanning with in-house CAD, additive manufacturing, and Physical AI capabilities — so your scan is the start of a workflow, not the end of one.
Engineering-grade accuracy, not consumer scanning
0.03mm accuracy and 0.07mm resolution on systems maintained and calibrated for engineering and medical applications — not hobbyist photogrammetry or entry-level structured light. The difference matters when parts need to fit, function, or be reproduced to tolerance.
Integrated scan-to-CAD in one workflow
ALT's scan and reverse engineering capabilities are in the same team. Your scan doesn't go to a separate CAD contractor — our engineers who processed the point cloud also build the parametric model, maintaining geometric intent and accuracy through the full pipeline.
Seamless handoff to manufacturing
ALT provides additive manufacturing, prototyping, and fabrication in-house — so a scan can move from digital twin to physical reproduction without leaving our facility. The fastest path from existing part to reproduced or redesigned part, with no format translation or vendor handoff.
US-based, fast turnaround
All scanning, processing, and CAD work performed in Santa Barbara, CA. No overseas processing, no export risk for sensitive parts. Most single-object scan meshes delivered within days; CAD reverse engineering turnaround quoted upfront per project.
Marker-free for delicate or finished surfaces
No adhesive markers placed on your parts — critical for painted surfaces, finished consumer products, medical specimens, and art objects where marker adhesive or removal would damage the surface. Our AI tracking system captures geometry without contact beyond the scan itself.
